What do you get when you mix Opeth and Porcupine Tree? ……ambient band, Storm Corrosion, comprised of Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath, Steel) and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Blackfield). These two artists came together to create 6 mellow tracks which, when put all together, form the band’s self-titled debut album.

If you are a fan of either musician, you will know they both have a very unique and interesting approach towards music. The duo have taken their acoustic influences from their main projects to create the bases for their sound. Over this, both vocalists held the responsibility of creating intriguing vocal lines which not only mellow the listener but, keep them on their toes for what’s next. To fine tune everything, Storm Corrosion have added extra instruments such as shakers, violins…etc, giving the songs more depth.

This is definitely an album for fans of these two musicians giving a big picture view of their softer sides, the underbelly of their metal influences. I cannot think of a more interesting pairing of musicians. Thank you Åkerfeldt and Wilson for this masterpiece.
