HTH: How long have you been doing tattooing for?
Alisa:
I’ve been tattooing for about 6 years, and just opened the studio in April of this year.

HTHL What made you start?
Alisa:
I’ve always loved drawing, painting and art in general but I’d never thought about making a career out of it. I kind of fell into the industry when a tattooist friend of mine asked me to do some commissioned artwork for him. I found the whole process fascinating and started my apprenticeship the following week.

HTH: So you are opening your own parlor. What made you decide to start up Black Spade Studios?
Alisa:
I simply wasn’t getting the satisfaction I needed when I was working for someone else. It was great for a while and I learned a lot, but after a couple years I realized that my priorities were vastly different from theirs. I was pulling insane hours, driving myself crazy trying to run things for them, plus take care of my clients and it was starting to feel like a job rather than the passion it used to be. They were nice people, and I wish them the best but I wanted to move forward and I realized that I needed to do things my way in order for that to happen.

HTH: A big grand opening party will be happening August 25th. What can we expect at the party?
Alisa:
It’s going to be a blast! We’re doing an art show and silent auction, free giveaways, a few fun contests, $50 spade tattoos all day, BBQ food and drinks, and we’ve got a bunch of killer bands lined up (Left Hand Creation, Lead Sled Rocket, Gakdeth, Nexortus, Rory Tallion and more being added to the bill). We’re also hoping for a beer tent if we can sort the permits out with johnny law in time.

HTH: Any last words for readers?
Alisa:
Life is short, get a tattoo! As corny as it sounds, don’t let anything hold you back from what you want in life. A big fat thank you to everyone who had a hand in getting the studio going and for everyone’s continuing support. See you all on the 25th!
