Imagine spending your days locked up in a prison where you see the same sadistic people 24/7. Welcome to Oswald State Correctional Facility or Oz in short. The fictional level 4 maximum-security prison houses many of the state’s most dangerous criminals. As the famed movie The Wizard Of Oz says, “There’s no place like home”, the inmates also feel that “IT’S no place like home”. As viewers we encounter Emerald City, a part of Oz, run by Tim McManus who pushes for rehabilitation/ learning responsibility, rather than carrying out purely punitive measures. Continue reading

This is a big shocker. Actress Laura Prepon (That 70s’ Show), who played Alex Vause, will not be returning to Orange Is The New Black as a regular. Instead she will only appear for 1 episode. Guess the prison will have one less inmate.

Oz

Synopsis: “Oz” is the nickname for the Oswald State Correctional Facility, formerly Oswald State Penitentiary, a fictional maximum-security prison (level 4) in New York State, given the New York State Flag and motto (“Excelsior”) seen in the background when public officials are shown speaking publicly. There are also references to “upstate”, which is commonly used in New York State. The prison is most likely named after New York Commissioner of Correctional Services Russell George Oswald, who was the head of New York State’s penal system at the time of Attica Prison riot. The character Tim McManus refers to Attica as his hometown and the riot as his original impetus for his wanting to set up Emerald City. Continue reading
